Evan Hochberg is Associate Vice President and Deputy Director for Israel and Overseas of The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA). In this capacity, he serves as JFNA’s senior North America-based Israel and Overseas professional, focusing on building a stronger and more dynamic relationship between Federations, Israel, and Jewish communities overseas.
Evan previously served as the Chief Operating Officer for the World Jewish Restitution Organization. As the lead professional for this umbrella body of 14 international Jewish organizations, he built partnerships with governments and Jewish organizations in North America, Israel, and Europe, and led negotiations for restitution of Holocaust-era assets in over 15 countries in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In this capacity, he also served as Director of International Special Projects at the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
He began his career at the Anti-Defamation League. Evan has served as a law clerk at the Maryland Court of Appeals and the South African Constitutional Court and a litigation associate at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. He was a Senior Counsel at the Legal Counsel Division of the New York City Law Department, where he advised the Mayor’s Office and City agencies and drafted State and City legislation with a focus on criminal justice, the environment, transportation, and ethics.
Evan is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School. He participated in the Ruskay Institute for Jewish Leadership Fellowship, Berrie Fellows Leadership Program, and Dorot Fellowship in Israel. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children.
